If you have ever been in the presence of a young child you know that you often hear the word “WHY?” Why do birds fly? Why do fish swim? Why do we live in a house? The WHY’s can go on and on. Even when we think we have replied with a seemingly logical answer to the question a child will still want to know more, “BUT WHY????” is often their response. In exasperation after what seems like endless answers an adult will often say, as so many of us have be heard, “BECAUSE I SAID SO, that’s WHY!” End of conversation but WHY???? Why does the conversation end there when all the child is really asking is, “I WONDER WHY . . . AND I LONG TO KNOW MORE”.
So where does our wonder go? It gets lost in the “because I said so’s”, and the “it doesn’t matter’s” and even in the “I’m busy right now’s, go ask someone else”. But WONDER is our friend, our lover and a deep part of our soul’s connection. It is WONDER that leads us to discovery, sometimes into unknown territory or on a path to great joy!
For many of us WONDER got lost along the way in our hurry to “grow up” but I’ll let you in on a secret, it never really went anywhere, it has always been a part of you and will always be, it is just waiting to re-discovered.
There are many ways for us to re-discover our sense of WONDER. A simple way to start is to think back to when you were a small child and recall a few of the things that you were interested in, things that you WONDERED about. You can sit quietly while doing this, twirl your self around and make the room spin, take a walk in the park or just take a walk in your mind but let your thoughts flow, what you do externally doesn’t matter just allow your mind to go from thought to thought; to allow the WONDER to flow. You don’t really need to find the answers, it is the questions and the curiosity that guides you. The answers will find you.
You may find that one WONDERMENT will bring you to the next. WONDER-FULL! As you begin this journey of Discovery you may experience an overflowing feeling of peaceful joy in your heart. That’s what WONDER does for us.
So join me, as I stand on the shore . . . looking out over the sea of possibilities . . . at the mountain of WONDER that awaits our DISCOVERY!!
