Thank and Grow Rich by Pam Grout (2016)
Pam’s book is filled with great REMINDERS:
“When we give up our cultural story that it’s a dog-eat-dog, every-man-for-himself world, we can’t help but notice that human cooperation is actually the norm. People love to help each other. Ask for directions if you don’t believe me
“The world is a magical place. What we have been offered so far is anything but. Let’s start with our current economic system. It’s MADE UP.
It was designed by the reptilian part of our brain, the part that’s scared, the part that hollers, Danger!
It’s based on artificial lack and rampant, unsatisfying consumerism. It can never give us what we really want.
One of its key tenets, in fact, is to encourage us to seek things we already have.
Until our financial paradigms got all up in Mother Nature’s face, we were gifted with everything we could possibly need. (p.27)
Every thing we do, every thing we believe, is predicated on the idea that we lives in an indifferent and sometimes even antagonistic universe.
“To be successful, we think we must bend it to our will. Exert control, use discipline.” (p. 28) This is in fact how I felt when I recently viewed the documentary DamNation. To see how man thought that by controlling the flow and stopping it completely for a gain that was not greater than the flow itself, man killed life and justified doing so over and over again by building over 30,000 dams in a 20 year span of time from 1970-1990. Mountains of cement over 700 feet high broke Nature’s natural flow.
“That there’s scarcity and lack. The current economic system touts insufficiency, promotes the preposterous notion that important things are missing in your life.”(p.28) Let’s remember Mother Nature provides everything for us and that she’ll prove it to us in creations like this: www.skysource.org.
“Once it supplied all your basic needs (food and shelter, both of which were originally provided for free by Mother Nature), it was forced to come up with fake stuff to sell you. The assumptions of scarcity is one of the central axioms of economics. It’s regarded as objective truth. However, like most “objective truths,” it’s nothing but a PROJECTION.” (p.28)
“Wealth is far from a synonym for security. It often breeds the opposite, building a wall that blocks our true wealth-our common humanity inclinations to create and give and spread joy. (p.33)
I gathered and shared these quotes in support of what I believe, what I choose to remember, and in support Tin Can Jim’s last post. It’s also a reminder to us all that our current paradigm is finally breaking down and coming apart because it does not encompass our nature of what it means to be human. “Giving” and “being” are a natural human state that makes us feel alive and connected to all of life. It makes us feel LOVE and thats who we are as a species. I welcome that remembrance and state of being into the New Paradigm we are now able to create as the old one comes to an ugly and messy end, we rise up.
