Here I am on the beautiful Island of Maui. Everyone wondering why Maui? I get asked to answer these kinds of questions when I travel. I can’t say I know the answers they are looking for at that moment. I go where my heart calls and only afterwards do I have a glimmer of why. I’m reading the book called the “Surrender Experiment” which is so apropo to how one might explain how I go about my life. When I came to understand the Universe is working through me and that I am but a vehicle of service to its much larger plan, a plan far richer and more meaningful than anything I could concoct, I learned to make decisions from my heart.
In listening to my heart I was led to come to Maui. Bravely so, I came without even having planned lodging, and what do you know? My friend Jamey from Molokai had flown over to Maui and was available to pick me up when I landed. I found out days before I left that he would be on the island and that he would kindly come and get me. He was staying with a long time friend and said there was plenty of space for me to stay at their too. I arrived to find this adorable little cottage would be my new home and private bedroom for four nights.
I love my space. It’s so cozy and open. I have screened in windows on every side of this adorable secure hut (that Jamey built) that sits right next to the outdoor shower, where I have had the joy of bathing under both the sun and the moon! Thank you Universe.
When I entered my room I joyously found many wonderful items and messages that reflected the universe was speaking to me and had my back. My child in me loved the teddy bear and, my soulful self loved seeing the yogi and his book that changed my life sitting right next to my bed. There is much more in the room that spoke to me but you get a small glimpse of the magic of surrender.
Being a natural connector the universe uses me to bridge people, products and ideas together and my travels are a big part of that great alchemy. My sweet friend Jamey graciously watched the magic unfold when he brought me into Lahaina to walk me down the stretch of galleries that gives the touristy town its magnetic pole. It was fun to see my life through his eyes as we made it in and out of only a few galleries because of the wonderful people I was meeting and the time they spent with us. Diane was a lovely older woman from Virginia who was in a gallery where I was stroking a 6 foot tall whale that was made out of a glossy porcelain substance. Before you know it we were exchanging numbers. She then suggested I contact her son 45 year old son who lives in Berkley, CA and forwarded his contact to me on the spot. Diane reminded me of George Washington’s wife Martha. She was delightful. Where the connection to her son leads… is still a mystery.
We crossed the street and walked into another gallery where I was struck by a photograph of the moon that looked so life like I just wanted to take if off the wall and bring it home with me. The salesperson brought us to a dimly lit room, extracted the moon picture from the wall and put it under a spot light that he dimmed. The moon looked even more spectacular. I asked him if the artist was giving half of his proceeds to the model herself? The moon. He laughed thinking I was joking but I was not.
Our last stop took more than an hour of our time as I made friends with a very dear man who lathered my skin with delightful creams and potions. I had no interest in buying facial products but my new friend was so authentic and charming I couldn’t resist listening to his knowledge on the Holy land dead sea salt skin care line, and having him treat my skin as he talked. My friend Jamey who has lived deep in the jungles of Molokai for 25 years was as charmed and intrigued by our new friends knowledge and playful spirit as I was. We saw the transformation of my own skin right before our eyes. Here’s the cutie pie below.
These were just a few of the wonderful people I have come to meet in Maui. Jamey has introduced me to friends of his who own some of the most beautiful land on the island. Many of them have been here for well over 30 years and more. The homes I have had the privilege of entering have ranged from large unique and dynamic octagon structures resting on sprawling fairyland like properties with fresh water creaks running alongside to a yurt in the middle of the jungle. That was the first yurt housewarming party I had ever gone to. It was fascinating to meet this 70+ year old german woman who had just upgraded to the yurt after living half her lifetime in the jungle with far less… as her chosen way of living.
I must run now as I have a lunch date with one of my new gallery friends. The magic continues…
Live like life is a dream!
Love, Superhero Sis
