I was asked to write about an experience I had just a few weeks ago post election. Wow, have things changed already. The post election “blues” have become a wake up call for everyone that is conscious and ready to “rock and roll” through the chaos and conflict of the present time. Strap on your seatbelts, hold on, brace yourself and all of those cliché’s, because, as you are aware, we are in for some jolting and major turbulence in today’s ever-evolving world. I am saying nothing new. If you are reading this, you already know it and feel it, and probably you are here to help our current state rise out of the ashes and into the new light.
I was working one day in my Wellness Center in Southern California (www.New-Moonwellness.com) . I had met a wonderful man (Scott Holmes of Immordl) who has created a super-food cold coffee and tea to be placed as kegs in the Love Bar at my store. He turned to me one day, as he was installing the kegs, and told me about a cruise that he was organized by a friend of his. He proceeded to tell me about Summit at Sea, a travel experience that was more like a huge TED Talk on the ocean. For three days, over 2500 passengers, including myself (who had to apply and were then “invited” to attend by the organization) were to sail on the beautiful pacific waters of the Bahamas, without internet connection, in order to connect to each other, and learn about innovative ideas and concepts from entrepreneurs, CEO’s, creators, artists, musicians, filmmakers, social activists and influencers of our modern society in America and worldwide.
When I looked at the line-up that was posted on the website www.summitatsea.com, I was amazed!!! I was going to be hanging with some of the most creative and successful human beings on our planet, and I felt extremely excited. The questions arose…. How was this all going to play out??? Who would I be able to meet and talk to? What would I learn? Why was I asked to participate? Who am I in the scheme of this adventure at sea? Why were we all placed together at this time in history?
Truthfully, I felt out of my league (my own issue) and a bit apprehensive when I boarded the ship. It was so enormous and austere, and people were already forming groups; many knew each other from the previous years on SAS, and many knew each other from business and community events or already conceived friendships…I was alone. It was a bit daunting, but I decided to embrace the experience and let go of trying to control it and allow the Universal Force (God) to guide me to the people I was supposed to meet and be with throughout the next few days. Maybe I would figure out why I was there, or maybe not…maybe the reasons are still unfolding for me and the cruise was just a small part of my journey. Maybe there will be significant collaborations or co-creations as a result of my newly found connections?
Well, everything was set into motion the way it was supposed to be. Yes, this special cruise was commencing the morning right after the Presidential election!!! I flew into Miami on November 8th and made my way onto the decks of the ship on November 9th. I boarded the ship… dazed, confused, tired and bewildered. Did Hilary Clinton just lose the Election? Is Donald Trump the President of the United States? All of us not understanding what had just happened. What the F@#K? I thought we were going to celebrate a victory for the most qualified candidate. How are we all going to get through this? Wasn’t this cruise supposed to be fun? For pleasure? A great learning experience? I don’t get it? What’s going to happen???
The first speaker at noon was Will-I am from the Black eyed- peas. Hilary Clinton hadn’t even given her concession speech yet, but we all knew the result and we were in collective shock. COLLECTIVE is the key word here… we, the speakers, presenters and participants, were some of the major movers, shakers (and, of course, leaders) in our communities for business, the conscious movement, and the arts, and we were all numb. I guess we were all supposed to be together, to mourn, to grieve and to question what had just happened and what were we to do with the outcome. Will-I-am was poignant, He asked all the young people (20 and 30 somethings) which were the majority on the ship, if they had voted? He shamed them first, then, he called them to action. He explained that we must not sit around and be complacent, that we have to take action, be participants and be grateful we are able to do so.
All of the speakers and presenters, for the remainder of the program, decided to “tweek” or completely change their agenda’s from their original form… this is what it was now altered to:
*From talking about their overall success in their fields to how we can take care of one another.
*From monetary abundance to compassion for each other.
*From how to build an empire, to how to get our companies and businesses to be in better service for the good of the environment and the earth as a whole.
The agenda had now become a platform directed towards peace, unity and action. Taking a huge step away from individual needs to collective thoughts, actions and goals.
I enjoyed hearing Tony Hawk speak about building skate parks all over the world to help kids come together and participate in a “new sport” within their communities, I had a chance to see Erin Brockovitch speak about our water system and how polluted and damaged they have become, and how we can fight to create more awareness around this issue. I witnessed Quentin Tarantino (filmmaker) and Kendrick Lamar (hip-hop artist) dialogue about creativity and how we can spark creativity within ourselves. Hearing Norman Lear (television sitcom creator) recount his life, was a highlight, and at age 94, he was filled with wisdom and humor. I attended a discussion on human rights with Dolores Huerta and Sonia Sanchez, and sat with amazing women and men to discuss women’s rights and actions we must take to make a difference for all women in the world. I participated in workshops with David Deida (author) , Ester Perel (Relationship Therapist) and Dora Torres (Celebrated Olympic Gold Medal swimmer). I listened to great live music on the ship from Theory Corporation, Jose Gonzalez and Allen Stone. I participated in yoga and meditation with Shiva Rea, and danced with mind-blowing choreographers and performers. I shared beautifully prepared healthy meals from top chefs from L.A to New York with people from various countries and backgrounds and discussed new ideas and innovative thought processes. I was entertained with meaningful slam poetry from Aja Monet and beautiful movement and performances by an original cast member of “Hamilton”.
In the end, my questions were actually answered. No, I did not meet the person who would change my life, nor the idea that would be the next great breakthrough for my business, nor make the million dollar deal, BUT, I found INSPIRATION from the enormous and beautiful collective spirit ,and I embraced a new way to bring positive light into the world. Though brainstorming, idea sharing, envisioning a new existence and working as one collective team, all with the same intention, TO BRING MORE LOVE INTO OUR LIVES AND MAKE AN IMPACT, I felt the power of the saying “we shall rise up” in order to heal our hearts and repair the world. It may not have been my original expectation to experience what I did, but, thorough it all, my soul was moved… and I now have a platform for change.
Love and Light always,
